Mahmud Bayo A. Alabidun was born on the 6
th day of March, 1965 in Lagos Nigeria. He had his early education at the Local Authority Primary Apapa, Lagos; Alamuwa Grammar School, Ado-Odo, Ogun State, Nigeria and the School of Basic Studies, Kwara State College of Technology, Ilorin, Kwara State. He earned his LL.B degree from the prestigious University of Lagos, Nigeria, in 1986 and his B.L from the Nigeria Law School in 1987. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in October, 1987. He also holds a Master Degree in Law, (LL.M) with specialization in Corporate and Finance Law from the Lagos State University, Lagos, Nigeria in 1998. He became an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of England, in 2003 and was conferred with the Fellowship of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and administrators of Nigeria, in 2009. He is a past member of the Governing Council of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria.
He served as a Prosecutor with the Department of Public Prosecution, Ministry of Justice, Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria from 1987 to 1988, and then briefly as an Associate in a notable commercial law firm from where he was talent-spotted and employed into the services of Punch (Nigeria) Limited (Nigeria’s foremost newspaper publishers), as Legal Officer. He served this company for nineteen years, leaving to take up a Public Service appointment as the General Manager, Legal Services, of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria from 2007-2011. He was admitted into Citipoint (Legal Practitioners) as an Associate Partner in 2011, and works in the Corporate & Commercial Practice Group, while also directing the affairs of Equity Union Limited, the Company Secretarial & Nominees services arm of the firm.
He is well versed in Corporate and Commercial Law Practice having served at both Private and Public services Sectors of the Nigerian Economy. He has attended several International Law Conferences and Seminars which have sharpened his skills in the areas of Commercial/Corporate law Practice including those organised by on the Law of Aviation. He is a Member of the Aviation/Maritime Law Committee of the IBA, Internet Law Committee, Human Rights Committee, African Law Forum, Corporate Law Committee and Media Law Committee.
He is a prolific writer and has written several published articles on diverse topics including on Nigeria’s Law of Equipment Leasing, Nigeria’s Corporate Tax system, Shareholder’s Protection under Nigerian Law, Banker/Customer relation under Nigerian Law, Comparative Analysis of The Hague, Hague/Visby and Hamburg Rules, Locus to sue on Bill of Lading under Nigerian Law, Nigeria’s Law of Arbitration and Conciliation, etcetera.
Bayo is an active member of the Nigerian Bar Association (N.B.A), and has served on several committees of its Ikeja Branch, including the Election Planning Committee, and the Branch Professional Ethics & Disciplinary Committee.
He is happily married to Abiola, and the marriage is blessed with three children (Sarat, Mubarak and Fathia).
